I have seen Tasmanian devils battle over a carcass. I have seen lionesses crowding a kill, dingoes on the trail of a feral piglet, and adult croc thrashing its prey to pieces. But never, in all the animal world, have I witnessed anything to match the casual cruelty of the human being.

My Briefest Thoughts on Kony 2012

Wouldn’t it be nice if the problems in Africa were as simple as a 27 minute film.

Wouldn’t it be nice if creating awareness for such horrifying things going on in our world, didn’t ALSO double as advertising and propaganda.

Wouldn’t it be fantastic if the organization, Invisible Children, (which has been scrutinized for it’s operations before) gave more than barely a third of the money that it brings in to ACTUALLY aiding the cause, that, their entire livelyhood depends on there never being a solution to.

Wouldn’t it be nice if direct military action wouldn’t result in the deaths of MANY of the children that our innate sense of human decency and morality, begs us to protect.

Wouldn’t it be nice if I wasn’t petrified of posting this for fear it will be misread that I’m somehow pro-the torture and destruction of children, instead of anti- capitalistic “charities” and “non-profits” who get rich off of sort-of-kind-of educating people about a problem, taking their money, and slapping a make shift band aid over an infected, gaping wound.

No problem is ever actually so simple that throwing money at it can fix it.  The explanation behind Joseph Kony and ALL the fundamental injustices against humanity in Africa span back well over the past century and take a bit of actual research to figure out. We should do something, absolutely. But you wouldn’t give a plumber $100 to paint a portrait of your cousin half a world away. I won’t give my money to a shady organization to solve a problem, that I don’t think they have the ability or far more importantly, the will to fix.

I have a sneaking suspicion we’ll be seeing a Kony 2013, and Kony 2014. Continuing that heartache for the victims and us on lookers the world over. That is, if they haven’t picked another target in the lottery of disgusting people in power around the world for us to focus our hate on. I fear we won’t ever have a universal sigh of relief or a raised glass to celebrate the liberation of these children from the efforts of Invisible Children and the Kony 2012 project, that they’ll just beg us to keep our wallets open, and we will, because it’s “better than doing nothing”…Like how we’re still waiting to celebrate the cure for cancer, to reap the “rewards” of the trickle down from the government bail out our tax dollars (and China) funded, and for no longer needing the use of those goddam heart wrenching Sara McLachlan Humane Society Commercials.

However, I really, really pray that I’m wrong. My glass is poised and ready…
